The Department of Health, in partnership with the 10 SHAs in England and NHS Improvement (supported by the British Thoracic Society, Primary Care Respiratory Society, British Lung Foundation and Asthma UK) held a series of regional events in March 2010.

The aim of the events was to enable all interested healthcare professionals to hear from the National Clinical Directors for Respiratory Disease, Professor Sue Hill (Department of Health Chief Scientific Officer) and Dr Robert Winter (East of England SHA Medical Director), about the contents of the strategy. Delegates provided feedback on the recommendations it contained, and had an opportunity to record their response to the consultation at the event.

There was the opportunity to talk about the:

  • work being undertaken to help support delivery of the strategy by the Director of the NHS Lung Improvement programme (Phil Duncan).
  • chapter on asthma which highlights where there are synergies in the approach to the care of these conditions and where there are differences.

Each event had a distinct regional flavour, with practitioners speaking about local programmes, together with an opportunity to discuss arrangements to implement the final strategy in your area.
